Thomas Mortimer from Sweden and Jenny Etherington from New Zealand founded the company in 1993, after the birth of their daughterSolva. As new parents, they were not satisfied with the plastic children's swings available on the market, so as a carpenter and seamstress by profession, they decided to create their own, natural alternative, more in line with their values.

Solvej swings continue to be built in Jenny's home village in New Zealand to continue creating new jobs, giving community members the opportunity to support the local economy, while being as environmentally friendly as possible, and committed to sustainability.
