Each of the color illustrations has three ''layers''. You can view them through the color filters included with the book. Red you can see dinosaurs, green - their habitat, and blue - prehistoric plants and animals.

The book consists of 10 chapters presenting individual parts of the world in the Mesozoic era. Each one contains a description of the prehistory of a given region, a black and white guide to the local species of dinosaurs, prehistoric animals and plants, and large colorful illustrations to be viewed through color filters.
